Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

A Father's Rights

I am a non-custodial parent paying child support for my 3 yr. old. I along with the custodial parent are in the military. She's on one coast and I'm on the other, so therefore I only see my child once or twice a year. The custodial parent has been given orders that require that someone has to keep the kids(she has another child, that is not mine)for about 6-9 months. She has elected against my wishes that a friend keeps them, although they will come to the same state that I reside in. Needless to say, I want to keep my child during this period of time. The mother's complaint is she doesnt's want to separate the kids. I would take on the weekends, etc. so the siblings could see on another. I'm her father, don't I have any rights to be able to keep my child?

Re: A Father's Rights

It's certainly worth a try. Contact an attorney and get into court; let the judge decide. You might also offer to take the other child. Then, if she objects to that, the choice to separate becomes hers.
