Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Garnished wages
My neice is living with a man that has a child. They are not married. He has been to court several times regarding child support. They are now threatening my neice that they can garnish her wages and are asking very personal questions about her finances. They said that they can get a suppeona to get the records from her work. Can they legally garnish her wages?

Re: Garnished wages
WHO is threatening your niece? Who is sending subpoenas?
Your niece should contact the Division of Support Enforcement in Olympia, and should not hand over information without a judge requiring her to do so.
She may need to seek a protective order.
Some obligors hide behind other persons claiming they have nothing in order to evade a child support obligation (trust me, it happens).
But it would be *highly* irregular for his girlfriends' wages to be garnished. That's why I'm so curious about who "They" are.
If its a private collector, they may not know any better.
Your niece might do well to run this fact pattern by the Attorney general's office. Hope this helps. Powell
