Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

My husband and I are separated and in the process of divorcing. We currently share custody of our son and neither of us pays the other child support. He is in a situation now where he will have large legal expenses and may possibly be sued. If I take full custody and he pays me child support, would that money be protected if he loses the lawsuit and has to pay?

It always depends, but almost certainly. Child support obligations take very high priority. Once paid the funds are no longer his and his creditors would have no basis for seeking it from you under most (all?) circumstances.
