Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
"Jerry Springer" style adoption
First of all- Thank you for this service!
I'm adopting my youngest son. The biological father signed and agreed to the adoption. He has seen him twice in approx. 6 yrs. (Within the last 6 months) The papers are filed and now he wants to back out. He has never had any interest and lies about his income to pay only $100 mo. in child support which he is behind in. He is however upto date on payments with his 2000 Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor!
I referred to "Jerry Springer" because my ex-wife (mother of adoptee) is his ex-wife. They got married and divorced during our seperation. We got back together when she was 3 mos. pregnant. My current girlfriend is his recent ex-girlfriend!
Oh, the question! What are the chances of proving abandonment and winning the adoption? Can a biological parent just jump into a childs life after 6 yrs. and take over the "daddy" position even though "Daddy" (ME) has been there since before birth?
Main Question: Do I even have a chance at keeping my son?
The mother is in agreement with me!
Thank you so much for any information you can provide me.
Sincerely, Daddy

Re:
I don't really know the answer to your question. I have done any adoption work.
However, to make things a little bit on your side, you may want to think about filing a third-party custody petition. It wouldn't be the same as an adoption, but it puts you one step closer.
