Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

judgment for higher than actual amount

My ex-wife has filed a judgment for arrears child support for an amount far greater than the actual amount. My payments have been made through WSSR in Washington state and they had the correct info. I did not appear at the hearing believing that the court would utilize the records from this state regulated agency. I do have copies of checks, money orders, paystub garnishments and WSSR records to prove the correct amount. I have contacted 2 attorneys to inquire about this, and with out specifics didn't give me much hope to have the judgment reduced to the correct amount. Is there

any hope of accomplishing this. The judgment is for

$14,477.00 and the actual amount of arrears at the time was only $4,800.00 and is now is down to $4,200.00. Please Help.

Re: judgment for higher than actual amount

You didn't say where the judgment was entered. Texas or Washington. In any event, if you have not exceeded the allowed time, you should hire an attorney to file a Motion for New Trial or other appropriate pleadings on your behalf.

Re: judgment for higher than actual amount

Often the difference is the interest your account accrued. In Texas the interest rate was 12% until Jan. 2002.
