Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Keeping name in divorce

In a divorce, if the woman wants to keep her married name after the divorce, can the husband force her to give his name back? What about if the husband took the wifes' last name when they got married. If they divorce, can she force him legally to give her name back or can he keep the last name? In this case the latter is true.

Re: Keeping name in divorce

Either party gets a free name change if they want it in the divorce decree. Generally there is no legal basis to force either party to change their name or not change their name.
