Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Legal Separation
If someone is "Legally Separated" can he rent out part of his house to someone of the opposite sex, or have a live-in companion, before the divorce is final, without causing more complications with the divorce? (The spouse abandoned him and literally "stole" most of the assets.)

Re: Legal Separation
Not sure what you mean by "Legally Separated" as this to a lawyer means the Court has ruled on all property and support issues. If this is the case check your order and see or discuss with the attorney who handled the matter. If however you are separated which is what I presume you really are then there are two issues. First the legal issue. You can rent out part of the house as that is your business. Legally is should not cause any problems. The second is the political issue with your ex. She may not like this and take a harder stand then she would normally. You should discuss this with your attorney. If you do not have one you need to get one if your ex did run off. You may still have some liability for her actions so you need to meet with an attorney to sort out what actions you need to take now to protect your assests.
