Re: legal separation/domestic violence

The filing fee is $250.00, and if you have to have a professional or law enforcement service of process, you should expect $50.00 to $100.00. As to attorney's fees, you should expect about the same cost as a divorce (you can later convert the decree of separation into a decree of dissolution of marriage (divorce), so long as you don't change anything you want in the decree, except the separation to divorce. Attorney's fees for divorces and separations vary with how complicated and how contested matters are going to be, if everbody is cooperative and practical they may be well under a thousand dollars, but if it is a complex matter or the parties are fighting over everything, you can expect attorney's fees several times that.
