Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Making changes to a Will

I currently have a Will, but have been divorced. Can I just make an ammendment to my will with the changes or do I need to start over?

Re: Making changes to a Will

If you are divorced the will won't create a distribution to your ex by operation of law.

It is outdated now. Probably best to do a consult, get a new one, and what you really need is a Durable Power of Attorney and a Health Care Directive.

But if something happens to you tomorrow your ex won't be your heir as she isn't your wife any more.

Your estate would go to your children.

Hope that helps - Elizabeth Powell
