Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Marriage/Divorce

I know there are laws in reference to having marriages annulled. I recently got divorced and we have quikly realized we have made a big mistake. Can divorces be undone in court or do we have to get married all over again?

Re: Marriage/Divorce

First, congratulations on your recognition of the value of your marriage. Our society's infatuation with easy divorce and breaking vows has sown the seeds of incalculable harm both to individuals and to society.

As to "anulling" the divorce, I would certainly give it a try. An attorney would probably do it best.

You should look at CR 60, RELIEF FROM JUDGMENT OR ORDER at http://www.courts.wa.gov/rules/display.cfm?group=sup&set=CR&ruleid=supcr60

Assuming you are over 18, your best arguments would be "mistake" (CR 60(b)(1)) or "any other reason justifying relief from the operation of the judgment" (CR 60(11).

Once the decree is vacated, you would then do an agreed dismissal. (CR 41(a)(1)(A)) http://www.courts.wa.gov/rules/display.cfm?group=sup&set=CR&ruleid=supcr41

And as for the money and energy you have lost in the whole process--chalk that up as a low-cost lesson in what is truly of value in life.
