Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

meretricious relationships / property division

My sons father and I are separating. We have been living together for 6+ years. Are son is almost 5 years old. My sons father owned his house when we met, I have lived in the home for 6+ years. During this time I have assisted in paying the mortgage payments when I was working and after my son was born became a stay at home mom working odd jobs to help out. Also 3 years ago my sons father opened his own business with the financial assistance of my credit cards which are now paid off. At this time my son and I are displaced staying with friends and he is residing in the home. I am wondering what my rights are if any concerning non marital relationships and property division and what type of lawyer to retain since there are no standardized forms available and an attorney must draft the forms.

You have an enforceable interest in the house if you contributed to it. You also may have an enforceable interest in the business if you provided some of the capital. You would also be able to get child support on the same terms as a divorcing couple. The big question is whether your son's father was listed on the birth certificate or affidavit of paternity.

I'd be available to discuss your situation with you early next week (I'm out of town until Sunday this week).
