Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Modification Rules For Children Entering College

I have twin daughters going in to college this next fall, both are ''A'' students and have over 1350 SAT scores. Their Bio Father does not want to help with support past their senior year. They will be going to college, but living with me in the summer and breaks, as well as I will be sending them money for things they will need. They may have much of their college paid for in grants etc. but will still need a home in the summer and will still need health insurance. He is ordered to provide insurance at this time and he is ordered to pay child support at this time but says he will not pay past their 18th birthday, because this is what the original support order was for. So how much can I get and what documents from schools etc do I need to bring to court? Should I file now or wait until spring?

Re: Modification Rules For Children Entering College

Secondary educational support depends upon whether your attorney or you, if you did your divorce yourself, drafted the order of child support to include a provision for such support tobe paid. Even if you didn't do that, you might still be able to petition the court for that support if you and your former spouse contemplated that the children would go to college or trade school. I would have to review your order of chil dsupport first and then discuss what you needed to do to try and obtain secondary educational support. You can go to the Washington Courts web site and look for the listing of forms packets that are assembled as lists of documents that are needed to do certain legal procedures.
