Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Move to different state.

I am currently married and had a child with another woman prior to getting married. The child is 4 years old and has been living with me for about a year and a half. His mother hasn't visited him the whole time or paid child support. The court awarded me primary physical custody due to her inablity to maintain a job and housing. She just got out of a rehab program 3-4 month ago. I believe that she rents a single room from a friend and is working. I am currently in the process of moving out of state. I filed and served her anticipating that she would contest. What could she do to stop us? Once I move can I get the case moved to that state?

Re: Move to different state.

Move away cases are difficult and vary by the facts. Also, there are some changing legal issues with regard to move-aways. If she contests you should obtain the services of an attorney, I assume that this is a very important matter to you. You should get a consultation before you go to any mediation to make sure that you don't say anything that will hurt your case. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
