Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Mu daughter and her husband are getting divorced, but no paperwork had been filed yet. When he left he took their only vehicle, as she was left with 4 children and no car I let her borrow my very old "errand" car. It is not reliable and I would like to buy her a newer used van. My question is we live in Washington State, if I buy the van and put it in her name will he be able to claim it as his assett when they get divorced? I was planning to wait until the divorce was final but I fear my poor old car will not make it!

Thank you

Simplest answer to cut that problem off is for your daughter to file for divorce and declare a date of separation, then you give her the car the next day. You can also give it to her as a gift and document it as such (as a gift to her alone).
