Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

My nephew just came to live with us. He turned 18 three weeks ago but is a Junior in high school.

My husband and I want to add him to our health insurance. So here are my questions:

1- Do we need to establish some sort of legal guardianship and is that even possible given his age?

2- Are we better off taking him down to DSHS and having him get on welfare's health insurance and is that possible if he is still in high school and doesn't work?

Thank you for your help with this. My nephew needs glasses immediately and we just can't afford them. (Not to mention that he hasn't been to a doctor in years).

1, It depends on what the rules are under your health insurance. Guardianship is for people who legally lack capacity (to make decisions).

2. I don't know enough about DSHS and welfare health insurance to say anything about it.
