Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Non custodial parental rights

We are wondering how much ''control'' an ex-wife has over whom her child is around. She told my boyfriend yesterday that she could keep their son from him if she didn't want him around me. She has also told us that we couldn't take him on outings, no physical touching (hugging is REALLY out). We are wondering if she has this right or what? Thanks!

Re: Non custodial parental rights

You should probably carefully and closely read the parenting plan. The exact terms of authority are in the parenting plan. Without a copy of the parenting plan a precise answer is not possible. However, the general rule in Washington is joint custody and joint decision making (on major decisions), and each parent has full authority on routine decisions relating to the child when the child resides with them. There generally is a dispute resolution clause in the parenting plan.
