Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Ownership when one unmarried joint home owner dies

If one unmarried, joint home owner dies, does their half of the house go to the other owner or the the heirs of the now deceased owner? If the answer is the heirs of the deceased owner, is there a way to prevent that?

The question is probably going to be controlled by the nature of the ownership relationship of the property (i.e. is it joint tenancy or tenancy in common with Rights of Survivorship), You have not provided the necessary information to answer this question.
