Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Palimony/support

I was in a commited relationship for 17 years. My ''wife'' (not legally married}works in an espresso stand. One of her customers started romancing her, knowing full well she was commited. She walked out on me taking one of our two children with her. I am currently disabled, and have not started to receive social security benefits yet. For the last three years, she has been my only means of support. She is currently still paying the bills, so I have a place to live, but when I do get soc. sec. approved, it will not be enpough to pay the mortgafe, and other bills. If possible, I would like to keep my home. Also, she is the one who walked out on us. What are my legal options? And, is there anything I can try to recover from him, as he lured her away from me knowing full well she was in a lifelong commited relationship?

Re: Palimony/support

The Supreme Court has just handed down a decision sharply limiting the relief available in a meretricious relationship.

You can (and should) seek a parenting plan and an order of child support and can additionally seek other relief, but it probably isn't going to be as generous as you would like or hope it would be, unless you can get a very aggressive attorney interested in taking your matter up on appeal after it is litigated.

You don't have a cause of action for alienation of affections - that went out with horseless carriages.

Please contact your county Bar Association for help in finding local counsel who can assist you. be sure to inquire whether that person is a member of the Family Law section of the State Bar, so that you can be assured that they are up on the most current law.

Hope this helps - Powell
