Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Parental termination

My husband wants to adopt my son, however the biological parent pays child support but isin't involved in his life what so ever doesn't exercise visitation right, no verbal contact.. nothing. Can I cancel child support to go for adoption? I know I would have to wait for like a year or so. What are our options

Re: Parental termination

This happens. It can be negotiated. You can offer the bio-parent the trade off - if he will agree to the adoption, he will have no further duties towards his child.

You can discuss with him the issue of unpaid back support (if any) because that is owed to you, not to your child.

In Pierce County, the lawyer who does adoptions is Joyce Robson (sp?). You can find any attorney in WA at wsba.org or avvo.com (that is a v v o ).

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
