What is the law concerning paying child support for achild that is not ours. My husband was told that even if he gets a perternity test proveing the child is not his...he is still required to pay support for this child till he turns 18. Is this true?

Re: paying child support for a child that is not ours

It depends on whether he has been the presumptive father to the child. That is to say, if your husband has been a parent to the child since her birth it is likely that a court would order that he support the child.

There are circumstances under which he could be required to pay support. Although you say the child is "not ours," you don't say whose child it is and what the circumstances of your husband's relationship to the child are. The law is applied to factual situations, and the application of the law to different fact situations leads to different results. All I can say is, it is possible that he is liable for child support. However, I could not tell you whether your husband is liable for child support based on the facts you have provided.
