Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Posting emails
I was wondering if it's at all illegal to post emails from an ex-girlfriend who is the mother of my son, on a website. The emails are posted to provide proof to others of the defamatory language used against myself. The emails were sent to my email address and I just copied and pasted them to a personal website. Thank you

Re: Posting emails
This is not a family law issue as such. Her emails to you by their nature are not defamatory. Defamation requires publication to a 3d person. Your act of putting them on a website is publication, but you would be the publisher. As to whether it is illegal to post them, there is no criminal statute that would prohibit it, but you may have civil liability if you post them and they cast your ex-girlfriend into a false light. You may also want to consider some of the practical aspects of the effect of your escalating the situation.
