Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Question about Divorce Facilitator
My husband got divorced in 2002 in Port Orchard WA after 25 yrs. They did the paperwork themselves and she signed all the paperwork which included her signing her rights to his military pension. He would pay her new car off, maintain her insurance and give her monthly support for 3 yrs. The facilitator told them that she HAD to take the retirement no matter what so the other deal was off. Isn't that giving legal advice? The ex defaulted on the car and he ended up paying for it anyway and didn't get the car. So it seems he got screwed by both the ex (who abandon him) and the facilitator. Is there any recourse. We just found out that he should have fought this. JAG was no help as they don't handle family law except to administrate the final decree. Thank You.

Re: Question about Divorce Facilitator
I would consider the Facilitator actions that you have described as giving legal advice. I don't know that your husband has any remedy against the Family Law Facilitator that would make any difference to him. You are correct that JAG legal assistance offices do not represent parties in divorces. The remedy he can seek is to make a motion to amend the decree, but I think he is going to have a hard go of it after 6 years.
