Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

reimbursement for tuition

My husband paid for his ex-spouse's student loans from 1 year prior to their marriage until There divorve two and a half years later. The amount being paid was 500 dollars per month. The degree was a masters in creative writing. During the time of the marriage she quit her job to stay home and write. However she did anything but write, consequntly not earning any income. She did finally go back to work ''part-time'' and not living up to her earning potential. My question is Can he reclaim any of the money that he paid to her student loans since he did not benefit from any earnings of her education.

Re: reimbursement for tuition

This is matter best addressed in the negotiation or trial of the dissolution of marriage. If the decree is entered, unless he can show fraud or someother concealment/misconduct (e.g. she concealed information on the money/education issue) the prospects of getting this issue reopened are slim. Since he knew about the money and the education, if he did not raise it at trial or in the negotiations he waived it. The courts favor finality.
