Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Are my rights being over looked?
Dear Sir; In brief: Nearly three years ago (approx Nov 95) I had a extremely short relationship with a female. This female (a mother of three on welfare) was seeing other men just before me and had another in her life right after her wanting me out. The length of our relationship one month. I did ask if she was on any type of contraceptive. She said she was receiving depoprovaro (sp). I moved from that apartment complex and went on about my life. I heard nothing from any one until on day I has served papers stating I was the father of a baby. girl. I had no idea that that had happened. I did not ever know she was pregnant. What are my rights? What about the child she has stolen...

your rights may or may not be overlooked
If you have just been served, you need to check the paternity to determine if in fact you are the father. If you ignored the summons and the court ruled you are the father then you have a real problem. You did not say what state this was in so that is important. You need to talk with an attorney and have him/her review your situation. How did the mother 'steal" the child? Are you involved with the child? If not why not? If you are going to pay you my as well enjoy the benefits and learn about your daughter. if you are the father then you owe your child more than just child support so either way get to know her unless you prove she is not your daughter.
