Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
ex ruining credit
In my divorce decre, my ex took over the boat loan along w/ her parent, I took my name off of the title. The ex wife and inlaws say they dont have to refinance and my credit score is loosing points. What can I legally do. Can I remove the loan from my credit report since we are divorced. Am I still responsible for the loan even though in the divorce she is considered responsible. Im ready to take her to court to protect my credit but need advice.

Re: ex ruining credit
Whether they have to refinance would be controlled by the provisions in your decree. If you have a hold harmless clause in your decree you would under some circumstances be allowed to pay the loan yourself and recover from her. Depending on how your decree is written you could consider a motion to compel under the decree (after you get the order compelling performance any failure would potentially be contempt). The attorney that assisted you in the dissolution may be the best person to discuss what your remedies are.
