Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Separation agreement

Myhusband and I entered into a separation agreement which runs out on July 21. What is my legal status in relation to the marriage after the 8 year period covered under the separation agreement runs out? Is a new agreement needed? If he files for dissolution,am I still bound by the provisions in the separation agreement if the dissolution is applied for after 7/21?

Re: Separation agreement

No attorney can responsibly offer an opinion without seeing this document. Your status depends on the agreement, and whether the agreement meets the standards for an enforceable separation agreement.

I cannot tell from your question whether the document is even enforceable.

If you are married, worst case is WA is a community property state, and each of you holds half of all your property.

Hope that helps. Elizabeth Powell
