Gotta love those cops, but the answer is more complicated than that.

The cops are not the judge, and the judge has to follow state law, and the new law is that you are only "entitled" to property that you purchased. This puts you in a pretty bad position if your s.o. was making the purchases and earning the income.

If you are low income and need help, contact volunteer legal services for help in Pierce County. They can help you find a lawyer who will work for you for a low or reduced fee, sometimes for nothing. Don't be scared to ask.
