I need to know how to serve an order: show cause for contempt to the respondent. Respondent has failed to pay alimony to petitioner.

Re: how to serve respondent a show cause for contempt order

The preferred method is what is called personal service; that is a competent person not a party to the action placing a copy of the order to show cause into the possession of the party accused of contempt. Alternative methods are available, but generally will require proving some special circumstance.

How do you get this done? You could have somebody you know do it for you and sign the declaration of service (you would need to get it filed then). You could put it in the hands of the civil division of the appropriate County Sheriff's Office (Pierce County?) with a check for the fee. Another alternative is to utilize one of the legal messenger services, e.g. ABC Legal Messengers, also with a check for the estimated fee, you will want to make sure that the declaration of service is filed (if the agency does not state that they have done the filing).
