Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Sister suing my parents

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do next.

My estranged sister (36) left home at 18 and has had very limited contact with the family since then....

Last Sept, she sent what looked like a legal document (she is a para-legal) via her friends in an opened Fed-Ex envelope to my parents. There was no court stamp or filing number on it. It demanded not only her baby book but other misc childhood items and her share of my Great-Grandmother's salt and pepper collection that Grandma 'promised' her... they were never G'ma's - they were a gift to my mom from great-g'ma and we have a letter from my uncle stating this too. In total it is for about 3700.

Upon reliable advice we ignored the letter.... now she had a court date 'ex-parte' and there is a judgement against my parents for not showing up. They are filing a motion to vacate and have requested transcripts of the hearing. The new court date is set for early April. They are both on disability and on a very fixed income....

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Sister suing my parents

The motion to vacate is appropriate, if they were not served properly with a summons and complaint. I would recommend that they check the court file and see what the return of service says.
