Re: Sole custodial parent wants to move to different state

If you in Washington, you are subject to the requirements of RCW 26.09.405 - 26.09.560, commonly referred to as the relocation statute. You are obligated to provide notice in a certain form, with certain information, at least 60 days before the move. You can give notice by personal service on the person or by any kind of return receipt mail (registered, certified). Review RCW 26.09.440 or consult a lawyer about the information you must put in your relocation notice. You must include things like your service address pending the move, your reason for moving, notice that the other person must file an objection if they want to block the move, your new address, etc. The requirements in the statute are quite specific, so you should contact an attorney if you have questions.
