Re: spousal support

The possibility of spousal maintenance exists in every marriage, but based on the information you have provided, I would not want to speculate on the likelihood that a court would order spousal maintenance in a contested hearing or trial. A partial set of factors that would affect the outcome on spousal maintenance include, incomes of the parties (and relative difference), separate property owned (and relative difference), how community property is divide, how long married (often affects how long spousal maintenance will be set for).

Re: spousal support

Theoretically, the basis for spousal support is need v ability to pay.

There is this myth about the length of the marriage being a statutory basis for a maintenance order, but the statute doesn't say that.

Spouses with closely held businesses are very tough to figure out. They can make it difficult to learn what they have. But it can be done.

Talk to a local family law attorney for more specific advice. Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
