Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Ex Spouse Claims to property/finances

Can my new husband's ex-wife make

a claim for money on my property,

bank accounts or current/future

income for debt that she claims he

owes her? The house and all of my

own accounts were and are in my

name, before marriage.

Re: Ex Spouse Claims to property/finances

Unless you and your new husband wrote a bomb-proof prenup, some of your property is now community property and a portion of your property *may* be available to satisfy his debts.

It really depends, and I could not venture to give you advice without seeing every document first.

No reasonable attorney could do that.

The issue is that he may well owe her money pursuant to their decree, and the dissolution court is not going to allow your new husband to walk away from his prior obligations on the grounds that he owns nothing and you own everything.

Washington is a community property state. Hope this helps. Powell
