Step daughter stays with me?

My wife is dieing and my 14yo step daughter wants to stay with me in WA, not go back to her dad in OH. What can I do to see that this is possible?

You would have to initiate a third party custody action. The burden is on you. The default is the child goes to the other parent. I would recommend that you file it before your wife's death and get her testimony on record if she supports this action.
