Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Students loans and divorce

My husband and I are most likely going to get a divorce. I have been with him for only 4 years, and help put him through school. He is in Pharmacy school. I am wondering if there is a possibility that I could get stuck with half of his student loan debt in our divorce?

The possibility would exist that you could have a portion of husbands education debt allocated to you by the court, but it is unlikely (generally the court allocates debts and assets that are tied together to the same person). But regardless of what the court does in allocating the debt, you may be liable on the debt in the event of your husbands default.
