Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Visitation

I would like to know if it is possible to obtain visitation for an adopted child. My boyfriends mother adopted his son about 8-9 years ago. He received guardianship of his son during the proceedings because he was deemed to have lack of life skills to take care of him. If we were to hire a lawyer what would be the chance of gaining at least visitation if not custody of his son?

Re: Visitation

Yes it is possible to obtain visitation with a child. The criteria for determining whether a person may seek to maintain a relationship with a child is the best interest of the child, and that usually involves supporting an already existing relationship. You have indicated that the child was adopted, but you have also indicated some unclear matter relating to guardianship. I think it is unlikely that a court would grant an adoption and create a guardianship of the same child at the same time.
