Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
visitation
My son had a daughter with his fiance. They are no longer together and she is refusing any of us visitation. What steps do we need to take? She is a ''flight risk'' and mentally unstable. She is claiming sexual abuse in all members of our family and getting the church to side with her. We are waiting for a meeting with her pastors at this time. There is a strong possibility that she will disappear at any time. That is her usual mode. I know that everyone always says they are innocent, but I assure you that there is absolutely no sexual abuse in generations of our family. She just knows that she has all of the power to keep us all away with such allegations. What can we do as the father and grandparents? Thank you...

Re: visitation
The process is for your son to file a petition for determination of paternity and establishment of Child Support and Residential Schedule. The key here is to file the action and get her served. If she flees with your granddaughter, the court can and will take action to force her back, including potentially issuing a warrant for her arrest. As to the issue of whether there is sexual abuse, if those issues are raised, the court may appoint a Court Ordered Special Advocate or a Guardian Ad Litem to investigate those allegations.
