Re: How old is old enough
Under Washington law, there is no age when a minor child is "old enough" to change the parenting plan. The maturity of a child to make a rational decision as to where he/she would like to reside is just one of many factors in fashioning an initial parenting plan. It is a factor, and is not determinative.
Re: How old is old enough
The parenting plan normally stops being in effect as to that child when the child reaches the age of majority (18 years of age).
Refer to the parenting plan to ascertain your rights and obligations in relation to providing visitation to the noncustodial parent. Does the parenting plan provide for visitation with the father every weekend? Does the parenting plan also indicate that the custodial parent (here, your wife) must provide transportation (the four hour drive) every weekend? If so, you need to seek a modification of the parenting plan to change these obligations.
