My car was damaged and they won't pay

i loaned my friend my car, and he had 2 others friends in the car also, in there possesion someone shot up my car, there's 4 bullets, a broken window and my passenger door is jammed. I payed to fix my window and recently trying to get my door fix. It cost 400$. They were aware of the expenses, and said it was okay they would pay, then when it was time to get my car out of the shop, a couple of them said they weren't giving me a dime and no my car is stuck in the shop until i can come up with the money. i do not have insurance on my car and I know I am suppose to but im stuck and im not sure what to do

Your remedy is to sue your friend and the other people who were in your car, then.

It is going to take some time. Small claims is the fastest way to get money out of somebody.

You have to show the court that you have tried to mitigate your damages. If the shop does not get paid they can place a lien on your car. This will cost money, too.

Sorry about what happened. Car insurance is basically pre-paid legal for your car. If you had PIP coverage they would deal with stuff like this.
