Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington

civil suit not being served

I'm Canadian and live in BC. I was informed that 2 people in Blaine WA. brought a civil suit of harassment against me. Court docet showed I was to be in court Aug 2 2007. Due to a child in hospital I could not attend. I had a friend attendAug 2 2007 with letter and to explain why I was not there. At this time the judge noted I had not been served on this matter and could not procced, and would hold over 2 weeks. plaintiff lied to the Judge saying they had tried everything to serve me, then informed Judge they need order to have B.C RCMP serve me as thats only way they could. As of today RCMP have no record of any order. So Once again they have not served me and court is in 2 days.Do I attend court still? What are my legal options? or what can I do in such a case to resolve or move forward ? I have proof that there has been 0 attempt to serve me? thank you very much for answers.legaly lost

Re: civil suit not being served

No - if you have not been served, don't show up. You would be smart to hire counsel in Bellingham to investigate on your behalf, though, and give you an informed opinion.

Adam Karp is in Bellingham and he can likely help you. You can find any WA attorney at www.wsba.org.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
