Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington
Collecting a debt from an individual
I was involved in a relationship with a woman for 2-3 years. During that time, she had some problem with creditors and I helped her out by putting the debt ($2000.00)on my credit card (mistake). I wrote out a formal agreement that she agreed to by signing it, however, I didn't get it notarized. The relationship is over, I want her to pay back the money. Can I force her to do so, and how?

Re: Collecting a debt from an individual
Hello: I simply do not understand why people are convinced that a signature is automatically suspect without notarization. It is not true. If an adult signs a document they endorse the contents. End of story.
You can sue her in small claims for the debt. The State of Washington Courts has a website where you can learn everything you need to know about the procedure.
