Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington

How long after an accident can I collect damages?

A friend borrowed my car about 2 years ago. He was involved in an accident. At the time I did not make him pay me for the damages because he didn't have the money. Now I know he has the money and I would like to collect. How much time do I have to collect for the damages? This is in Washington and my vehicle was considered a total loss.

Do you have an insurance company and have you reported the accident to them?

You have three years from the date of the accident to bring a cause of action based on negligence, so don't wait.
