small claims

i just filed a small claims suite against my previous property management company. currently they are trying to take me to collections. by filing the suite does the collections process stop until resolved?

It depends. You can certainly write to the collections company and tell them that you dispute the debt, attach copies of the small claims Notice of Claim, and suggest that they wait until the matter is resolved, because they have a duty not to collect debts that don't exist.

You should consider advising the Washington Attorney General of the collector's action, just in case they are considering enforcement action.
