Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington
storage of personal items
a woman down the street from us, someone we barely know, was being evicted from her home. we tried to help in various ways but this woman really didn't even try to help herself.
so, she was evicted. in a panic she asked if we would hold onto her things for a couple days until she at least got a storage unit or another place to stay. that couple days has turned into 2 months, our driveway is filled with her garbage, and we cannot contact her.
what can we do? that garbage pile needs to go before we end up facing our own legal issues. how do we get rid of it without legal ramifications from her?

Re: storage of personal items
No good deed goes unpunished. Here you were trying to help and this is your thanks.
You really need to find her, even if it means hiring a private investigator to locate her. it is amazing what investigators can do to find people.
Send her a letter; tell her you will be taking her stuff to the dump if she doesn't come get it within 45 days.
Send the letter certified and send a copy first-class. Hang on to a copy of the letter as well.
Then, follow through.
