Legal Question in Immigration Law in Washington

Change of status for the second time.

I have applied for asylum, and it was denied,I am now married to US citizen. I want to know how do I go about filling papers to change my status for the second time. My asylum application was not returned to me but I did receive a denial letter from the INs.

Re: Change of status for the second time.

You should be able to adjust your status based on your marriage to a citizen. However, you must make sure not to ignore your asylum application... If it was denied, you might be in removal (deportation) proceedings. THe reason it was denied is important. If INS finds fraud or misrepresentation, that can be a reason to deny any OTHER application too, such as by your US citizen spouse. So - I recommend that you see an immigration lawyer at least once to get a good idea of how best to proceed. Good luck.
