If a book is no longer in print and copies are unattainable, is it legal to photocopy the book for use in a Bible Study, as long as the copies are not sold.

Any attorney will say a book not being in print is not a defense to copyright infringement. You can probably copy limited excerpts of the book and fall under the fair use doctrine. Consult with a copyright attorney in your area for specifics and before doing any copying.
