Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington
Copyright release form
I own a graphic design business, on occasion I use outside sources for images, art, etc. I am looking for a form, that will release the copyright so that I may freely use the material. The same form should allow me to release my copyright to my customer.
Does such a form exist?

Advice From Seattle Trademark and Copyright Attorney
Your question is a bit confusing...I think you want to have vendors produce something for you via a "work for hire" agreement. You can then disclaim your rights to the work you create for the customer via a similar "work for hire" agreement (this is fairly standard in graphic design). The smart approach to this problem is to have an attorney draft one for you, and draft agreements for all your other business relationships at the same time. Re: Copyright release form
if you are using another's image with their permission, then ask them for a release form...or you can do an internnet search for a simple release or create your own (for something simple like this it does not have to be a fancy lengthy contract...it should at least state that it is gives you the full right to use, reproduce, etc.. the image for xx number of years for a receipt of money)..if you don't have permission, then it is copyright infringement. justin
