Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington
Is it possible to copyright a song with a melody based on the number Pi (3.14...) so that no one else can create a melody based on pi in the same key? - It is my understanding that copyright only covers the interpretation of an idea and not the idea. Wouldn't this have to be a patent?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Copyright protects only the expression of an idea, not the idea itself. Without fully understanding what you intend, it's not possible to give an answer. This is really a situation where you need to consult with a good copyright or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
