Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington

Im putting together an ebook to sell thats full of audition monologues for actors. Some of these are modern & subject to copyright, however at the most Im only going to be using 1-2 paragraphs & Im giving credit to the play & author. Is this legal? I took a look at the Fair Use part of the copyright law, however its a bit confusing & Im not sure where my project falls? Thanks!

Fair use is extremely subjective and the answer depends upon how much you are using qualitiatively and quantitatively from the original work, whether your work is a substitute for the original and several other factors. It's best to retain a lawyer to get a professional opinion as there is no clear answer.

As a franchise attorney I can say the other attorney answer is right on point. Fair use is very subjective and the fact you are producing a commercial ebook is also an important factor. Consult with a good IP or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
