Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington

Ready-Made contract for exclusive rights to artwork

I'm designing an original children's DVD and need to contract some of the

illustrations out to graphic illustrators.

I have been looking for a 'ready-made' contract that allows the transfer of all

rights of the artwork to me as well as giving me the exculsive rights to the

artwork and basically saying that once I paid for the work, it's mine.

Are there any ''Ready Made'' contracts like that available?

Thank you for your time

You need to craft a "work for hire" agreement. It probably wouldn't be difficult to find one of these (on the internet, etc.) but establishing a relationship with a Seattle Intellectual Property attorney (such as me!) would be a good idea for this purpose and for the inevitable other IP issues that you would otherwise overlook in pursuit of your project. Believe me...a large percentage of my client-base are people who tried to do stuff like this themselves and screwed up...and it's always harder to go back and fix than doing it right initially.

It is always best to write an agreement that is factually tailored to your situation. A "ready made contract" may not address in totality your needs.

I would recommend that you seek out an attorney that specializes in transactional intellectual property work.
