Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington
USA COPYRIGHT LAW QUESTION:
According to Wikipedia: "Works published or registered before 1978 currently have a maximum copyright duration of 95 years from the date of publication, [only] if copyright was renewed during the 28th year following publication..."
My question is, is the phrase "during the 28th year" actually mean that the material had to be renewed during the 28th year, or does it mean that it had to be renewed anytime prior to the 29th year after publication?
1 Answer from Attorneys
You want to know why? Are you trying to take another's copyrights? I can think of no other reason other than academic. Ask your professor at law school if this is academic, or ask an estate attorney if it involves your rights to a deceased persons' works. If you wish to pusue it, go to the courts and do your research. I will not do your research for you, or be your law prof, or tell you why or why not. I will leave the answer to the Supremes (US Supreme Court Justices) who decide constitutional law.
Tell me who you are, and maybe I have a better answer.
